Public Transportation

Welcome to Salzburg

Navigating Mozart’s city by Obus

Whether you are a regular commuter or it’s your first visit to Salzburg, public transportation is the best way to get around the city. This page hosts a wealth of information about available transportation options, how to find and purchase tickets, and where to find additional information through various online resources.

Thanks to the extensive trolley bus (Obus) system that’s been in place since 1940, riders can access almost every corner of Salzburg, all from the comfort of a quiet, modern, and environmentally responsible vehicle. For those arriving in Salzburg by plane or train, the Obus system has you covered. Line 2 brings you from the airport to the main train station, while line 10 will take you from the airport to the city centre. If you plan to arrive by train, lines 1, 3, 5 and 6 will all take you to the Salzburg city centre. Find additional information on these connections, and the rest of Salzburg’s bus lines.

Riders even have the chance to plan routes and see real-time trolley bus information via an English language smartphone app. Use the links in the sidebar to download the Free App „qando Salzburg“ for both iOs and Android.

Salzburg also has something to offer for those arriving by car but looking to avoid traffic and high car park fees: Park & Ride (P+R). With four strategic locations, riders can park, purchase an economical day-Kombiticket valid for up to five riders, and take advantage of unlimited public transport throughout the City of Salzburg.

Tickets, tickets! Get your tickets!

To use Salzburg’s public transportation, a valid ticket is required. For most visitors, a 24-Hour Ticket or a Week Pass will suffice, but there are other options available like a Single Ride Ticket or the Salzburg Card. With the Salzburg Card, visitors receive free, unlimited use of public transport and free access to museums, among many other benefits.

What this means, is that any rider will find the right ticket to match their needs. And one never has to look or go far to buy one. Purchase a ticket:

  • before getting on any of the buses at over 130 tobacco shops and ticket shops in Salzburg,
  • or directly from the bus driver.

Please keep in mind that all tickets purchased in advance must be validated upon entering a trolley bus. Riders should also note that only a few ticket types are available for purchase from bus drivers, and that these tickets cost more than those purchased in advance.

Resources for getting from point A to point B and beyond

With a robust transit system and a wealth of information for riders, exploring Salzburg is now easier and more efficient than ever. Plan an upcoming bus ride, peruse detailed maps of city and regional connections, download individual timetables for Obus lines, and browse through ticket types and fares – all with a few mouse clicks.
